E-12 Option Card / Expansion fault in Toshiba drive

E-12 Option Card / Expansion Fault fault in Toshiba drive

Description Toshiba drives often support add-on cards for communications (Profibus, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP) or extended I/O. E-12 indicates that the main CPU has lost contact with this option card, or the option card has reported a fatal internal error. This stops the drive because the "brain" can no longer trust the commands coming from the network. Causes
1. Poor Connection: The option card is not seated correctly in the slot on the main control board.
2. Vibration: Heavy machine vibration has caused the connector to back out slightly.
3. Card Failure: The option card electronics have failed due to power surges or age.
4. Network Storm: Excessive traffic or errors on the communication network have overwhelmed the card's processor, causing it to freeze. Solution Power down the drive completely and wait for the display to go dark. Open the front cover. Locate the option card (usually mounted on plastic standoffs). Press firmly on the connector to ensure it is seated. Ideally, remove it and re-insert it to wipe the contacts clean of any oxidation.

Check the grounding. Communication cards are very sensitive to EMI. Ensure the card is screwed down tightly to the grounding point.

If the fault persists, try to isolate the issue. Remove the card and change the "Command Mode" parameter (CMOD) to Terminal/Keypad. If the drive runs fine without the card, the option card is faulty and needs replacement. If the drive still shows E-12 with the card removed, the main control board's expansion port is damaged.
