HdC Hardware Error (Capacitor) fault in delta drive

HdC Hardware Error (Capacitor) fault in delta drive troubleshooting

Description

HdC flags a problem with the DC Bus energy storage. The drive monitors the ripple voltage on the DC bus. If the ripple is excessive, it implies the main capacitors have lost their capacitance (dried out) and cannot smooth the voltage effectively.

Causes

1. Aging: Electrolytic capacitors have a lifespan (5-10 years). As they age, capacitance drops.
2. High Load: Running the drive near peak capacity with a weak mains supply increases ripple current.
3. Phase Imbalance: Input phase imbalance places uneven stress on the capacitor bank.

Solution

Component replacement:
1. Check Mains: Ensure all 3 phases are balanced.
2. Replace Caps: This is a "Check Engine Light" for the drive. You can sometimes continue running, but the capacitors need replacement soon to prevent catastrophic failure.
3. Reset Counter: If you replaced the capacitors (maintenance), you must reset the "Capacitor Life Counter" parameter in the maintenance menu.
