Troubleshooting ABB Drive Alarm A2025

A2025 alarm in ABB drive indicates FIRST START (Motor Identification Magnetization. This means the drive is performing its First Start evaluation.

Understanding the A2025 Alarm in ABB Drives

If you are working with ABB drives like the ACS355, ACS550, or ACS510, you might encounter the A2025 code on your control panel. While seeing an alarm code can be concerning, the A2025 is unique because it is often part of a standard operational process.

Alarm Code: A2025
Meaning: FIRST START (Motor Identification Magnetization)

What Causes the A2025 Alarm?

The A2025 alarm is triggered when the drive is performing its First Start evaluation. This typically happens in the following scenarios:

  • Initial Commissioning: The first time the motor is run after entering motor parameters (Group 99).
  • Parameter Changes: After significant changes to motor data or switching control modes.
  • ID Run: When the drive is performing a Motor Identification Run to "learn" the electrical characteristics of the motor.
  • Scalar Flystart: In certain series like the ACS510, it may appear briefly during a flystart (starting into a rotating motor).

Is it a Fault?

No. Unlike a "Fault" (which trips the drive and stops the motor), the A2025 is an Informational Alarm. It signifies that the drive is currently magnetizing the motor to determine its characteristics for optimal performance and protection.

How to Resolve A2025

In most cases, the "fix" for A2025 is simply patience:

  • Wait: Do not interrupt the drive. The alarm will disappear automatically once the magnetization or ID run is complete.
  • Check Control Mode: If the alarm persists and the motor doesn't spin, ensure the drive is in "Local" mode if you are trying to start it from the keypad for the first time.
  • Verify Parameter 9910: Check the ID Run settings. If an ID Run was requested, the drive will wait for a start command to begin the process.

Applicable Drive Series

This alarm code is most commonly found in the following ABB product families:

  • ACS355: General machinery drives.
  • ACS550: General purpose industrial drives.
  • ACS510: Specifically designed for fan and pump applications.
  • ACS310 / ACS150: Compact component drives.

Note: If the A2025 alarm does not clear after several minutes or is followed by a "Fault 0011" (ID RUN FAIL), you should re-verify the motor nameplate data in Group 99.
